i find the learning of physics quite alike to maths. although there were more things to memorize, i still like it.. through physics, i get to learn how things work:) and as i now know how they work, i may try to apply it in my daily life.. ( e.g. reducing friction at some circumstances )
Very interesting video. In a way, it shows us a beautiful and wonderful method for us to approach our studies, with curiosity and the willingness to learn. At the same time, it finally made me understand why Mr Chang always teaches in a manner that just simply infuriates me. I say Mr Chang should stop watching things like this.... XD
Name: Fong Shi Hao, 4 Respect Views: In my honest opinion, the ways of teaching in the school is not decided by the teachers but in fact, it is always decided by the students. it is just they never realise it. As for the 'O' levels Physics, Yes. 'O' levels are here and everyone is somewhat nervous, paranoid and stuff but it's not how you can cram everything in your head but it is how you learn and apply it. Physics lessons are always interesting because it is to spur one to learn and not to think that Physics is just a mundane subject. So, to me, learning of Physics is like an experience because you may just never experience this again.
Amazing insight to how a lesson should be appoached, both as a student and teacher. You (Mr Chang) make our lessons interesting and we (students) attempt to absorb and learn physics. Your(Mr Chang) style of teaching, will not only help us get good grades for "O"s, but also to infect us with the enthusiasm to learn and continue learning. P.S. Now we all know what Mr Chang do after class :)
Eugene Soh, 4 Respect now i understand why Mr Chang always like to smile at us when we are in dire need of help, we need to find out the solution on our own, not to be just thought of all the concepts and be forced to memorise it. By learning it in this way, it will be much easier to understand and be able to apply the concepts rather than learning from a book. ALL THE BEST FOR 'O'S EVERYBODYYY!!!
I believe that physics is actually very interesting if you actually bother to pay attention to it. Our teacher (you know who) uses PowerPoint slides, interesting pictures and animation to teach during theory lesson to grab attention and a few laughs at times. Though it can give delusions at times ( e.g. when he pasted the photo of the cat with the sniper rifle)and cause confusion. But other animations, such as the 1 which illustrated waves, were very clear examples. Teaching which is applied out of syllabus can be an eye-opener to theory at times, such as the ice-creamer project, which shows flaws in our logics at times when we fail to keep the ice-cream whole in the end. In all, physics taught is worthwhile and interesting if you were to see my side of the view. P.S. Rare videos like the one are an epiphany to why Mr Chang's teaching style is as it is in present:)
I think that this video is very funny and also it teaches me that I have to learn to love physics before I'm able to understand physics and not treat physics just like any other subjects. I also think that learning physics is a very challenging thing and requires a lot of understanding and clarifications.I enjoy learning physics as it is a subject that sets me thinking deeper and Mr Chang teaches us to be more independent and responsible for our own learning!
Karyn Gunawan, 4 Humility i was intrigued by how the Ranchhoddas was actually teaching on how to teach instead of engineering. like what karmun has mentioned earlier, its a new perspective to look at physics. instead of looking at physics as the dreaded subject, we can look at it with a new perspective, like, physics is an interesting subject that has enabled us to accomplished many daily things in life, it is a really useful subject.
Marvin Yeo, 4 Respect The learning of Physics was rather more thrilling and exciting when I first step into Upper Secondary. Having more difficult and more demanding concepts, I find it useful to apply these concepts to our daily lifes (if possible, that is!). While some may aruge that Physics is the toughest subject, I personally feel that Physics will not be tough if lessons are conducted with actual real life applications, and a little lame jokes from our dear Physics teacher. Cheers, to Mr Chang, and Physics! :)
In my opinion, having you as our teacher to teach physics was the best thing we can get for our studies. You put in great effort in teaching us physics and we appreciates it. O'level for physics is stressing me out as i may not be the person that understands everything in physics but i will strive to achieve my best in physics as i know you will be willing to teach me more. All the best to all Physics students:)
(wow.. the indian accent was so irritating) This is a very nice video that inspired the students, and also the teachers. Learning is not only about memorising the definition, we have to go deeper and understand the concept. otherwise we would never know what is all about. Although the lecturer has taught the students about the theory, they may not know how to use it in real life. They know that "machine" is.... but in a simple form, "machine" can be so many things!
Physics is something that can help me a lot in my life. I have not wasted what Mr Chang has taught me. I can understand the definition and all but i dont really know how to make use of it yet. perhaps i have to go through deeper thinking? now i know why Mr Chang always give us a smile when we ask him something (that we already know, just that we forgotten it at that moment.) because he wants us to find out ourselves! :)
Png Qun Jia, 4 respect Interesting and funny video. I learnt that in physic, in isn’t only about the definition or formula. It is also about how we apply it to our daily life. If we only learn physic for exams/ jobs, there is no point in doing so.
I find this video very funny and interesting. I find that for physics, we have to understand the concepts and how it works and then apply what we understand. Because if we just memorize everything and apply what we memorized without understanding, then i feel that there wont be much point learning Physics because at the end of the day, we will not learn anything.
After watching this video, I realised that many of us are not aware that learning a subject is not just to acquire knowledge, and then sit for an exam and get an A1, it's about learning a new skill to be later on applied in our daily lifes as well as learning new things. As we get older in secondary school, we tend to lose our willingness to learn and also, our curiosity on certain subjects. We feel the strong need to get our A1/A2s that we ignore the main point of education in the first place. We should take a subject like an experience and learn the roots of it, not just learn it to score well. Lastly, i think physics lessons are getting more interesting :)
After watching this video, i learnt that learning physic is not just reading the textbooks and try to memorise all the definitions for certain subjects in the textbook. As 'o' lvls draws nearer each day, in order for me to understand physic, studying the textbook like crazy will not work just like what the character said in the video from 6:35-6:52 in the video. And for teaching of physic in hihs, i still don't understand a lot of things. -.-
I strongly agree on the video that we do not just learn physics and memorise them to get a grade out of it. We have physics as one of our science combination is because we have great curiosity about the technology around us, and taking physics allows us to get the basic right first before we can understand things in advanced level. In physics, we get to experience things in a whole new level, like for example not everybody know that sound waves are actually longitudinal waves even though sound is all around us in our daily lives. Of course, we should also have the right mindset to learn, and not because we just want to do well in our 'O' levels!
lee wei fang,4 respect This video is very interesting and it teaches me to learn physics in another way, that we have to explore Physic. By ourselves,we can look for more information on the internet or in books, which help us to know the topic more.It is really tough to learn "o-level" physic but by practising more,it should be fine.As for the teaching,i think is ok,we can do more projects=)
This funny video is quite interesting as it teaches us that understanding the subject (e.g Physics) first is much more important than scoring A1 for it. This is the reason why Mr Chang always try to use various ways to teach us and ask whether we have any part that we'll not clear about before going on. I shouldn't view physics as a very hard subject but treat every topic of it like a concept that we need to absorb in order to love physics!
I find this video interesting. Now, I finally understand why Mr. Chang keeps smiling at us, when we flip over the textbook for answers. To get the answers for physics questions, we need to first understand the topic, instead of referring to the textbook. Only when we understand the topic, then we can really understand the answers. If not, we would just be copying blindly, and at the end of the day, we learn nothing. Mr Chang is like Ranchhoddas, challenging us to learn things and not to memorize them, without any understanding
This video is very intresting and fun to see.It show us that learning a subject, physics is now just about memorizing the defination or formulae but is to understand the concept behind everything. So actually, i think i can remember the things Mr Chang teach us but not really understanding it. So i shall start understanding it so as to do well and love physics.
this movie seems nice :D hahaha. from this, i learnt that theres more than one way to look at physics and things in life. the complicated way, or just the simple way. sometimes we learn more things using the complicated way, but other times the simple way is more effective.
i think the teaching method used now is pretty good, the powerpoint slides used in class is kind of more to the point? rather than the textbook, we have to pick out the important points ourselves. the animations used also amuse us, making us destress by laughing(like the cat with the gun). they also allow us to learn better(like the animation on the way electrons move).
I find the video really funny and meaningful. Physics is not just simply memorising the concepts(which Mr Chang ALWAYS emphasises them in lessons), formulas and definitions in the textbook. Learning physics well requires us to know how to apply these concepts, formulas and definitions in our daily life. We should explore on our own to discover the beauty of physics. Now I know why whenever we ask Mr Chang a question, he will give us his oh so cute smile. ---> :D It is because he wants us to be independent and find the answer to the question by ourselves. I ALWAYS KNEW HE HAD A HIDDEN MEANING BEHIND HIS SMILE! :D
We should not just study and memorized everything in the textbook just for the sake of getting an A1 in the exams, we should enjoy whatever we are learning and make the best out of it.
I am glad that our physics lesson doesn't have such scenarios from the video, where teachers just teach for the sake of results or grades. I feel that students should have the drive of curiosity and should yearn to learn not only from the books, but also really understand the many concepts physics can bring us to understand and use it in our daily lifes.
As Lye Kit has said earlier, I believe that Physics is not just a subject. It is a skill, a skill that many of us will be using after we have finished school. Sometimes we go by in HIHS with only the aims of getting better grades, but that is not the case. We should treat Physics as a life experience. It is not something that you'll just forget and leave behind after you've finished school, it is a skill, a talent in which you could apply in your daily lives. Thus I think this video has taught us that the whole purpose of studying is not just to get good grades, but to also use it and achieve something in life as well. And at the end of the day, I think the we should all appreciate what we have learnt from Mr Chang. Mr Chang & Physics FTW (For the Win!)
Jackson,4Respect. I enjoy learning of Physics because every single day of our lives we come into interaction with things related to physics. Stuff such as The computer,The TV and so on and so forth. Learning physics can help me understand how stuff works and how i can by using this knowledge to my advantage. And just like the video,we should not learn for the sake of learning but learn because we hunger and desire for more knowledge and because we want to understand, not just the grades!
Physics is like friends. You may not understand it very well in the begginning. But as time passes by, with experience,we slowly understand Physics, understand how to deal with it.
Physics is like friends. Getting to know new friends after every chapter. Welcoming them to your world, everytime you learn about a new chapter.
Physics is like clothes. Some tight ones (chapters), we may not be able to understand so well. Some well-fitted ones(chapters), we will be able to understand.
Still, we try so hard because we love Physics.
Sometimes, we see Physic teachers going on and on and on non-stop.
Why? Because they are like us.
They LOVE Physics too.
Everytime they teach us about a new chapter, they get really excited and enthusiastic about wanting to tell us more and more about the chapter!
All though it has only been my first 2 months studying physics, and though i've not been doing so well in it.
I believe there is more to come, even if i don't get a good grade for Physics for O levels next year, it's ok.
Because it's the process of these 2 years of Physics that matters.
Fun, Confusing, Wonderous, New.
Mr Chang! Devil behind the smiles! That's what i've observed in my first two months of physics! Haha, but i'm fine with your teaching methods. Because this is our first time exposed to pure physics, a lot of us don't understand. But you still come over to help us. 'Mr chang!' there, 'Mr chang!' here. So i hope you can help me more in the future if i need help?
Benedict Lim from 4 respect 2011 Well...i feel somewhat enlightened by the video to a certain extent. That dude just went beyond his space and showed others that not everything must be defined by formulaes, textbook knowledge or anykind of concept. For all you know, one may be able to better grasp the knowledge of physics by learning outside of human-defined borders ( ONLY LEARN FROM THE TEXTBOOK by teachers or whatsoever)and so we should learn physics in a more interesting way instead of adopting the international physics professors look ( you know white hair and moustache )
Crystal Tan,4Hum I enjoy this video thoroughly.Learning physics is not just abt memorising the formulas and defintions,we must know how to apply the concepts and really understand it.
Adele Ang from 4 Humility 2011 View; after watching the view, i feel that physics is not just defined as knowledge, definition, books and formulas, instead, it should be the understanding and being ablle to apply the newly obtained knowledge to discover new things and more.. Also teaching is used to make others understand instead of reading it from a book. BY learnging physics in HIHS, i know where Mr chang gets his ideas now-,-
This video is fun!and it make me realise that learning physics is not just about to get an A1 for the subject, but challenge and love it as well!thanks for the video:D
The video is very inspiring, interesting and funny. It makes me realise that solely memmorising textbook definitions and formulas is not the way to do well in physics. Understanding the concepts and knowing how to apply them is what that is important. This is possibly why Mr Chang never answers our questions but instead confuse us further. It can be frustrating sometimes but it helps us to be an independent learner :D
I like this video because it is funny and also how wrong the lecturing was to teach by forcing th class to mermorizing definations for textbooks in order to pass the exams.Learning should be fun and entertaining like what rango did, then we will be able to absorbed what we are being taught and understand more about the concepts. :)
I think that Mr chang is teaching similarly to rancho in this video, unconventional methods are used in class. However, I think that it would be better if Mr chang did not just skim through those previous chapters by saying 'this chapter is ver short, etc etc' It makes me worried that there is a lot more to the chapter which he refuses to teach us to play with us during the mid-year or pelims. I also hope that the examples in the notes would pose some difficulty similar to his questions in the mid-year or prelims.
i find this video very true in some cases. whats the point of just memorizing just to get good grades. we have to love the subject in order to understand it to the fullest. and if we want to ace our subjects we have to love it as well. i think that to ace this O level we all havce to love physics. thanks for the vid:)
I find the video inspiring and somewhat serves as a stark reminder that in our studying phase, not everything requires us to memorise them by heart but all should be done with understanding. The books are dead, but we are alive and we have to learn to creatively apply what we have learnt into our daily lives. Also, Ranch is trying to convey a message to everyone that memorising the wordings in the book is not enough but one must be able to fashion them into tools for solving our daily life problems. Hence, through this video, I have learnt that if I want to excel in my studies, be it from English to Science, I have to learn everything with an open heart and sometimes, though, our teachers may not always be right. ;D
Interesting & funny video. Rancho had a very special way of teaching, which stunned Virus. I agree that memorizing formala and definition alone is not enough. There is a need for application. Also, grades for physics is not important, but the passion is.
The old man who looks like Albert Einstein looks very funny xD
I like this video as it shows that one cannot stay at a position for long , it has to move on like how the world has evolved into it's modern state . I think that learning is not just about memorizing and practicing . It is also about understanding . How much we are able to take in to understand physics. By doing more hands on , it gives us a better view on how things work and understand it better. I think teachers should not just keep giving us practice on how to answer questions but give us real-life applications to work on :)
Through this video, I learnt that my learning of physics have to go beyond the textbook if i am to fully make full use of what i am studying now, since physics is applicable to my daily lifestyle. Teaching of physics can not be too direct, cannot be too straightforward, just knowing all the contents required to get a distinction, it must be taught in an appealing manner such that students learn information out of the box. That is why Mr Chang assign us projects that are out of syllabus but meaningful, if you think of its long term benefits. XD
this video makes me realise that learning physics is not just about learning the theory or just memorising the formulas.we can always link the concepts into our daily applications so as to get a better grip or understanding on the subject itself. i believe that although physics is rather confusing, we can always master or excel on it by improving the way we are learning it. we can always make our learning journey much more interesting and meaningful and thankfully our physics teacher has been doing this every physics lessons.:D however, i still find physics as one of the most complex subject i have ever learned. the more i think deeply into the concepts, the more confused i become. so, all this while, i have been studying physics by simply memorising the formulas and theory without a good understanding on the concepts itself. however, hopefully, i can change the way i study soon so that physics can turn out to be an interesting and useful subject to me.:D
This video is rather funny and quite inspiring to me. after watching the video, i feel that physics is not all about remembering the formulas but understanding the concepts and applying it on to our work. learning should be fun and exciting and not boring. this would ensure us that we would be able to absorb what we learn in class :)
Benjamin ng, 3 respect thats and interesting video, from that i get a pretty good understanding why people would want to learning physics,it is very interesting to learning something new. best of all physics have major uses in life, solving all of the biggest questions in the world , understanding why this does that and why this will happen and how it happens is what drives most of us into wanting a deeper and greater understanding of well...... everything
That video clearly shows how the education system in countries like Singapore, has turned students into nothing but machines that only give out information when needed, and the lack conceptual thinking is there. If the students had the common sense, and passion instead of the selfish competitiveness, they would not have searched blindly.
I feel that Rancho was making a point. A point that we have to learn with the ATTITUDE to learn not how much we KNOW, or who's going to be the BEST.
Physics is interesting, we have to put not just our brains, but our heart to it too. :D
This interesting video shows why we should not only study or dread studying because the things we study is happening around us all the time. Physics is not a subject but instead it's life. Physics is life. If we don't understand Physics we are wasting our60/70/80/90 years of life and food and wasting the oxygen we breathe in. Hahaha physics is everywhere even when i am typing now there are physics theory involved. We should not learn blindly or only sticking the words in the textbooks WE SHOULD TRY IN OUR LIFE. No not try but it is in our life! WE LOVE PHYSICS! And Mr Chang's DEVIL smile. Muhahahah ;D
Qiu Zhiyu 4humility i feel that learning physics is not just poring over physics textbook for hours. it's a subject related to our everyday life. sometimes when i read the textbook definitions i found it quite boring and abstract. but when applying them in daily life , the abstract concepts really work and make work more effective and less time-consuming. just as Manhui mentioned in her comment, physics is not just about getting a good grade....
-last year- "I don't like Physics." "so boring!" "i dont know what the teacher is talking about" "so many theory" "practical not fun" "confirm fail one la"
i've grown to like physics over the months, not because of the teacher *er-hem, maybe because of the teacher's never-ending smile*, but because over the months i have learnt and grow to understand more about this subject. understanding deepens and interest grows(: true enough, papers that mr chang set are never easy. but solving them gives a great sense of achievment, making me like them more. it's like an addiction (kind of). it is also through mr chang i have learnt the concepts of physics. it's everywhere, we just need to learn to appreciate it(: well i think the secret to mr chang's wide smile is because of us - "physics love you" (as quoted from mr chang). you just have to love it back(: no wonder mr chang dont get annoyed when we keep calling his name in class.. :P physics is fun and interesting. it just takes to see the way we look at it (:
Ng Kai Ming,3 Humility I find this movie kinda true. There's no point taking a subject that a person does not love it.Just like one of Rancho's friend. He was interested in photography, but in engineering. But was forced to go there. And ended up as one of the last in school. So,i think that the student must be interested in physics in order to understand the subject. And also, attitude towards learning,if one is lagging behind,he/she must put in more effort to catch up! And i believe those who take physics as one of their science love physics. Therefore i believe the teaching method their teacher use will not really affect them.If they do not understand,i believe they'll use some of their free to time to read up.And i also find learning Physics in HIS is fun.We do not read up on theory, but also had the chance to do hands-on activities which i believe will help the students to understand better.
This video has thought me that when learning, not only for physics but also for all the subjects, what we score is not important, nor so is the textbook answers. What is important is that we enjoy what we study and study what we enjoy. We must go beyond the textbook to love and appreciate the true meaning of the subjects we are studying, and not just remember the formulas or concepts, just for the sake of a good grade for the exams
Koh Qing, 4respect. After watching the video, i learnt that Physics is not just all about the textbooks and what our teacher tries to tell us, it also includes our own interest and our own understanding when it comes to a certain subject. In the video, Rancho tried several ways to let the Director understand that and in the end he taught everybody an important lesson and that is, not following the textbooks blindly. I really enjoy SPA lessons though, cause i get to do hands on activites and i love it when something in our daily life is related to the experiment, and i get to experience it! C:
After watching this funny video, i have learnt the importance of learning (Physics) and applying the concepts. Learning is not about getting an A1 and memorising all formulae. Though sometimes, u reeally have to memorise some, as they may be tested, for definations. I like Mr Chang's teaching as he always wears a smile, every min and second. :D Though SPA can be quite boring at times. :x
Lim Ying Quan, 3 humility. The video is really interesting and fun to watch. It taught me that Physics is not just about definitions and correct answers but to be able to understand concepts and apply them to real life scenarios. It also let me understand why Mr Chang uses his methods of teaching. xD
I feel that it is important for us to read the textbook and memorise the definitions, but most importantly, we have to understand and try out the concepts learnt in order to know why is it like this, etc. This way, we will be able to remember things better. Also, learning Physics is essential as it is needed in our daily lives. Mr Chang do not only teach us things from the textbook, but also load our brain with extra information. :-)
the video is quite interesting actually, esp the part where the guy wrote sth on the board and give them 30s to find out what it was, everybody dove into their textbooks, even the principal. i feel that studying shouldnt be like that, so reliant on the books. understanding the concept and theory behind the formulas is much important.
Tiffany Anne 3Respect i enjoyed the video. it is refreshing to see "Rancho" and Mr Chang's views on learning Physics. the aim of is to learn Physics and not just to score an A1. though scoring an a1 would be really nice:)... anyway it changes how i think towards physics, it is not boring if i think differently and hopefully i would like the subject more.
I believe that Physics is a subject that needs understanding of the concepts before applying it and not just memorising textbook definitions. So doing more practices and applying it to our daily life will help us in learning physics!! =)
Ng Gui Rui, 4Humility Physics is not just what you can learn from a textbook, is all about the changes in daily life. We will need to know the concept before we could apply anything. Learning physics is not just to aim for a A1, it's the understanding, since physics has done alot for us, we should learn it with passionate even though it may be the hardest subjects :)) The video is funny.
Jacqueline Ng, 4 Respect This video is hilarious and interesting and i feel that it's rather true, textbook definitions and concept might not be really useful for my understanding in physics. simplifies version might not be useless.I think that learning Physic concepts and definitions are abstract and difficult to understand but with the experiments and tough questions you gave us, give me an opportunity to put on my thinking cap. learning Physics is not just about boring concepts, there are still some fun in many ways, for example the experiments like the ice cream box and the thermometer you gave us, made me have a deeper understanding of those topics involved.
I think this video is sooo true! Nowadays, everyone only cares about results and whether we're the best. We kind of forget about the joy of learning.
I think learning Physics, we first have to develop an interest. I like Physics because I feel it is more relevant in life. It also makes me use my brains though I get annoyed when i cant solve a question. :@ I think this quote makes some sense here "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." soooo, if we do something we like, we will have the tendency to score better. Sooo im going to try hard to love Physics.
However, I'm not saying we dont have to work hard because ultimately, we are going to take o'levels. We should strive to do well and get into our dream school! :D
SOMETIMES, LIKE LEARNING PHYSICS, WE SHOULD UNDERSTAND THE FORMULARS INSTEAD OF JUST MEMORISING THEM. PHYSICS IS NOT A DEAD SUBJECT, WE SHOULD APPLY IT IN OUR LIVES. NOW I ALSO HAVE INDIAN ACCENT. THANKS
XD Ryan XD, 3 Humility :D After watching the video, I feel that physics isn't just a subject, its more like an understanding(to me), on the things around, on the basic thoughts of why things happen like how they do. I feel that to understand physics, you have to know the definitions, but to understand the definitions is a whole different thing. To understand the definitions I think that using simple examples, experiments, will help you to understand and even memorize the definitions easier. No doubt, marks are important, but to achieve only the marks and no clear view of what physics is supposed to teach, there is no deeper understanding.
Ho Min Yun, 3 Humility Okay, this video is super funny, literally made me fall off my chair. I feel that in order to do well in physics, we must not just read off what is from the book but actually understand how the theory is derived. Physics is all about concepts and how you apply the concept into the question is very important. After revising for the upcoming physics test on friday, i realised that all e question i've been doing are the same and they use the same formula, same method but different values and different way of asking. therefore in order to learn physics the right concepts must be applied. I feel that learning physics in groups is not really effective because my group members and I end up gossiping among ourselves. It's either this or if not we venture on our own. Learning physics is more of a 'must-have-discipline-in-order-to-do-well' thing. In relation to the video, that guy who taught the teacher how to teach was fantabulous so yeah..teaching students in creative way is important too haha at least we won't dose off.., but so far i think physics lessons are pretty okay.. MrChang, i feel that u need to give us more worksheets. I will really appreciate that =) so yeah...that's my view about learning physics.
Kerisa Leow,4Humility Extremely funny video:D After watching this video,i learnt that physics does not just involve memorising what we were taught or memorising the textbook definitions but to really understand how everything works and be able to apply the concepts in life. Moreover,it has showed me that physic, can be interesting when one is willing to learn and question about stuff.
This video is awesome not only because it funny, but also it teaches us a lot of things. It tell us that life is not all about grades and scores but it about learning.Learning give us the curiosity to explore more and to discover its hidden meaning. It is learning that lead to the awesome science and technology we have today and it will still be learning that let us continue to improve our life in the future. Physic = AWESOMENESS w00ts~~ :D
Dexter Tan, 3 Humility No offence but this video really have no link to physics. However, i feel that it is very innovative of a teacher to use such methods to fuel the students enthusiasm towards physics. After watching this video, i realised that physics is not all about studying and learning concepts. It is about loving physics as a whole and applying them to real life situation, physics is not just a O-level subject. Lastly, i finally understand why Mr Chang uses such abnormal methods of teaching. :)
In life, studying is not about scoring in exams and tests only, they are only a gauge to see how how we have learnt from years and days of our education.Studying is definitely important, but why do we study? To gain knowledge, of course. To know more about everything, to satisfy our curiosity. Physics, is not only an exam subject that we learn and revise for application during SPA/theory lessons and exams, and then dump it at the back of our minds after school. It is a skill, a technique ,a friend to us. Everyday Nowadays, in the present era, life and physics is closely related.Life involves physics and sciences, which we use it for the benefit of ourselves and mankind and other living or non-living things.Real life applications of physics can affect us. Think our the world a few hundred years ago when physics is not so advanced and fun as today .Today, countries all over the world are trying to let their students learn more effectively and efficiently about physics, making it less boring like before, injecting more fun, excitement and stirring up enthusiasm among science/physics students. Our friend Rancho is not only trying to tell us another way of teaching, but also another way of learning.Learning not for sake of 'O' levels nor 'A' levels, but for we ourselves and to have the right attitude towards learning. The method of learning and teaching affects our studies. To score in Physics , we need much more than intelligence, diligence, but also the curiosity and willingness to learn, the passion and love for the subject too.Everyone of us have the capacity to learn anything, but in the end , it depends on our own decisions to decide our future, the path that is the best for us.We can keep on learning till old but application of our knowledge is needed too. Physics is useful in real life, we discover and explore new and unknown fields with it,leading to improvements. Learning is a life experience that everyone will go through. Learning is certainly fun, only if we use the right approach to it.We should appreciate our teachers' hard work in teaching us and not let them down.We should pursue our dreams and ambitions with a persevering spirit to reach for our goals, and enjoy and cherish the process that we have been through. Chose the subjects that we love . Learning may be easy or difficult to us , hang in there and seek help. Love the subject and it will love you too. It looks difficult at the first glance, but it can become easy as your learn about it ,or think and look at it from another angle. Learning should be fun and exciting, flexible and creative , unlike old school teaching methods. The environment is a factor too. That's why our school tries to improve on it. Teachers play an important role in our life and learning . Mr Chang, you are approachable and kind. You will teach us with patience and try your best to let us understand the concepts and laws.Your smiles encourages us and keeps us going on .
Jolynn Tan, 3 Humility After watching this video, i understand that physics is not about memorizing the formulas or definitions. It's about understanding it and applying it. It can also be in a simplified version, but as long as the theory or concept behind it is correct, it does not matter. I also learnt that physics requires your own interest in it and one must enjoy learning it. We should not just study it as it is one of our subjects or just to get good grades.
Neo Ming Hoon 3 Humility. After watching this video, I would understand that we should not always strive to get A1s only. I have always study for studying or because thats the law. This video tells me that we study because we want to learn. When we learn, we should feel happy that our knowledge increase. To be frank, ever since I am in Sec 3, I always feel tired when we're asked to learn something. I am studying because that was required for the test. I memorise the formula. If anybody ask me about the formula, i would just repeat everything that was written in the text book. After watching this video, i would understand the origin behind the formula. Reading everything from the textbook doesnt make you smarter, you're just a machine for memorising. And, I will try to look for the feeling I first had when I touched physics. When everything appeared to be strange and weird. When I was studying because I want to know more about Physics, the passionate for physics.
You Wan Teng 3 Respect I agree with the vedio as nowadays , learning is more like memorizing everything rather then trying to understand the true meaning of what we are learning. The movie actually tells us to think out of the box and not to be rootinized. In order to suceed, we must have a shift of paradigm. Physics is not just about trying to cram every single thing from the text book into your brain. I t is about trying to understand this subject and be able to apply it in our daily lives. In order to fully comprehend physics we have to cultivate an interest in it and take an initiative to find out more about this subject. In conclusion, memorising everything will not help you to do well in the 'O' Levels. In order to succed we must understand and be able to comprehend what we are learning. Thankyou for showing this vedio! :)
There are more than one ways of teaching, there is no need to memorise everything. For exmple: The master shook his head. ``I could answer your questions but I won't try because you wouldn't understand the answer. Now listen. Imagine that I am holding a pot of tea, and you are thirsty. You want me to give you tea. I can pour tea but you'll have to produce a cup. I can't pour the tea on your hands or you'll get burnt. If I pour it on the floor I shall spoil the floormats. You have to have a cup. That cup you will form in yourself by the training you will receive here.'' Thats why teacher never tell me the answers the guess... So Mr Chang's way of teaching is different i suppose...

elicia.3hum this video is highly linked to understanding of our subject.in this case, physics.we should try to understand and not be afraid of it so that our knowledge will be broaden and widened.Maybe in lower secondary,we all think that physics is boring but it is the origin of our creations so we should try to understand and not memorize everything so deadly which will be of no use to us in future when we work in the society and thus,we should learn physics in a more flexible way to make it an even more interesting way of studying, not only memorizing, and also to understand and apply in our daily lives.
Yi Fan, 3 humility Physics is the study of the universe, time and space. Physics tell us why apple will drop to the ground instead of flying away. Great scientists don't just remember laws or definitions, they ask questions and trying to find the answer. I don't want to study physics by just remember laws. Therefore, i agree with your way of teaching.
I feel that learning physics starts with understanding. Without understanding, all you will get in your heads will be formulas and a whole lot of definitions. without understanding, there would be no meaning to whatever one is learning. learning without understanding wont lead to discovery, it'll only lead you to you A1, maybe A2. like the dude said, whats the point of blindly cramming a bookish definition? does one really understand the meaning of it? understanding would help you remember, but memorising would cause you to forget. so we must understand physics to do well for physics. =)
After watching the video, i understand that just by going by the textbook and memorizing formulas from there is not enough. It is not a dead subject as i thought it was. Physics is all around us and it is about trying to understand the formula and being able to apply it into our daily lives. Though SPA lessons are really frustrating, i really enjoyed it :D But still, up to now, i still don't like physics.
MingKiat 3 Respect I think this is a value we should apply in every aspect. Whatever we choose, we should enjoy the fun in the process. Physics is about understanding the question and the concepts and apply. Although some question may be very brain-wrecking and we get very frustrated, but the sense of accomplishment when we complete it is fantastic! Physics is not fun if we take it as a plain subject that we study for the sake of studying. We should take Physics as a game so that we can have fun and learn in the process. This video is interesting. Teaches us values in a funny way. Mr Chung, you are the best Physics Teacher ;D
Yip Pui Hay ,4 Humility After watching this video, it taught me that what we are learning now for this subject is not only for our O level grades, but also for our future as it provides very useful skills. This subject allowed me to understand about the things around me. The deeper I get into this subject, the more curious I am to understand how things work. This is a very interesting subject ,even though it is quite tough at some parts, but nonetheless it is fun and encourages people to think and also to not take the things we have and the way things act for granted. In physics, there is much more than just formulas and definations, but also principles and reasons behind everything, even reasons behind how those seemingly simple yet complex formulas work. Thanks for being my teacher and encouraging us to enjoy/love physics :D
Vanessa Tan, 3 Humility After watching this video, i feel that memorizing textbooks formulas is not just the fundamentals in physics. We ought to understand what is it teaching us and it's the in depth understanding of the chapter that matters and not just plain old bookish details that is found in the textbook. This video taught me how to study smart, not just by reading the textbook, but also researching and expanding your knowledge by reading what's not in the book:D Wow! this video taught me a lot! Thanks Mr Chang:)
This video is very inspiring and interesting. After watching this, i understand that we cannot just memorize everything from the textbook, we must learn how to aplly it and we must learn how to understand physics.we must learn to apply concepts in life and we must be willing to learn physics if we want to understand how does physics work.
Paxton Yeap Yin Shi 3 Humility I feel that the video encompasses the two sides of learning. One, learning is about memorising and imprinting every single fact, defination, footnote or formulae. The other, studying because of passion and pure interest. We devote our time to studying and thinking ahead for our future, I thought that passion and interest is no more than additional toppings. To the achieve the goal was what that counts. Nut now I do not feel motivated to excel. Now I know that interest and passion is important and crucial to learning as just heading towards excelling in the subject is a long road and on your way there you need to eat and consume to keep you going, that is what passion is, it is a driving force.
Name: Lee Xin Ying Class: 3Humility I think the method of teaching for the 'O' Level Physis in HIHS is relatively enjoyable. At least I understood SOME of the concepts. This video teaches me there are many alternative ways to study physis. We must learn it in a way that inspire us and still understand physis at the end of the lesson. Instead of studying inside the book, we must study things that are also outside the book. For example , we can understand certain concepts by doing project. By doing project, we will be able to research on certain topics. During the research, we might encounter certain things that we are interested in and thus, develop a greater interest for physis. Like the main charcter in the video , he shows us that we must start our journey into physis through thrill and excitment, instead of a frantic racing to know the answer.
Name:Teh Wee Teck Class:3 Humility To me learning Physics is pretty enjoyable as it teaches me formulas that i have not seen it before and guides me to the fundamentals of life and explains the many questions that i ponder about in my early yaers of my life. And i am truly glad that i understand the theories behind the concepts.(e.g why things would fall a t a constant rate, from the free fall and terminal velocities theory.) Learning Physics requires critical thinking, which is one key aspect that i fell its quite hard to grasp. And the understanding behind the concepts truly takes time. But deep in my heart, i believe the problems would be overcome as my concepts behind theories are strengthens, as time goes by.
truthfully speaking, i dont find physics easy. formulas and concepts have to be memorised and applied at correct times to get the answer. maybe im just not made for it. but through this video, i feel that education in singapore is not as rigid as in the video and im thankful for that. maybe if the main character studied in singapore, he would be able to unleash his potential and teaching would not just be question-and-answer based. learning should not be a frantic race in life. it should be an enjoyable process, full of curiosity and desire to learn. though this virtue is rarely seen nowadays, we should learn to be like the main character and enjoy our chances of a wholesome education. physics may not be my best subject, but what it takes to overcome is the heart.
I think the video is really cool as it shows us that learning is not just a dead thing that we have to do. It shows us that learning can be intersting and fun. It tells us that we would probably learn better if we actually want to learn and are excited to find out more, not just being forced to learn. Although I'm still not crazy about physics, I hope I will be able to learn more and, who knows, end up liking it one day. -Cecilia Chan 3 Humility

ReplyDeletei find the learning of physics quite alike to maths. although there were more things to memorize, i still like it.. through physics, i get to learn how things work:) and as i now know how they work, i may try to apply it in my daily life.. ( e.g. reducing friction at some circumstances )
I LOVE PHYSICS:)

ReplyDeleteVery interesting video. In a way, it shows us a beautiful and wonderful method for us to approach our studies, with curiosity and the willingness to learn. At the same time, it finally made me understand why Mr Chang always teaches in a manner that just simply infuriates me. I say Mr Chang should stop watching things like this.... XD

ReplyDeleteViews: In my honest opinion, the ways of teaching in the school is not decided by the teachers but in fact, it is always decided by the students. it is just they never realise it.

ReplyDeleteAmazing insight to how a lesson should be appoached, both as a student and teacher.

ReplyDeletenow i understand why Mr Chang always like to smile at us when we are in dire need of help, we need to find out the solution on our own, not to be just thought of all the concepts and be forced to memorise it. By learning it in this way, it will be much easier to understand and be able to apply the concepts rather than learning from a book. ALL THE BEST FOR 'O'S EVERYBODYYY!!!

ReplyDeleteI believe that physics is actually very interesting if you actually bother to pay attention to it.

ReplyDeleteI think that this video is very funny and also it teaches me that I have to learn to love physics before I'm able to understand physics and not treat physics just like any other subjects. I also think that learning physics is a very challenging thing and requires a lot of understanding and clarifications.I enjoy learning physics as it is a subject that sets me thinking deeper and Mr Chang teaches us to be more independent and responsible for our own learning!

ReplyDeletei was intrigued by how the Ranchhoddas was actually teaching on how to teach instead of engineering. like what karmun has mentioned earlier, its a new perspective to look at physics. instead of looking at physics as the dreaded subject, we can look at it with a new perspective, like, physics is an interesting subject that has enabled us to accomplished many daily things in life, it is a really useful subject.

ReplyDeleteThe learning of Physics was rather more thrilling and exciting when I first step into Upper Secondary. :)

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, having you as our teacher to teach physics was the best thing we can get for our studies. You put in great effort in teaching us physics and we appreciates it. O'level for physics is stressing me out as i may not be the person that understands everything in physics but i will strive to achieve my best in physics as i know you will be willing to teach me more. All the best to all Physics students:)

This is a very nice video that inspired the students, and also the teachers.
I LOVE PHYSICS MORE NOW! :D

ReplyDeleteInteresting and funny video. I learnt that in physic, in isn’t only about the definition or formula. It is also about how we apply it to our daily life. If we only learn physic for exams/ jobs, there is no point in doing so.

ReplyDeleteI find this video very funny and interesting.

ReplyDeleteAfter watching this video, i learnt that learning physic is not just reading the textbooks and try to memorise all the definitions for certain subjects in the textbook. As 'o' lvls draws nearer each day, in order for me to understand physic, studying the textbook like crazy will not work just like what the character said in the video from 6:35-6:52 in the video. And for teaching of physic in hihs, i still don't understand a lot of things. -.-

ReplyDeleteI strongly agree on the video that we do not just learn physics and memorise them to get a grade out of it.

ReplyDeleteThis video is very interesting and it teaches me to learn physics in another way, that we have to explore Physic. By ourselves,we can look for more information on the internet or in books, which help us to know the topic more.It is really tough to learn "o-level" physic but by practising more,it should be fine.As for the teaching,i think is ok,we can do more projects=)

ReplyDeleteThis funny video is quite interesting as it teaches us that understanding the subject (e.g Physics) first is much more important than scoring A1 for it. This is the reason why Mr Chang always try to use various ways to teach us and ask whether we have any part that we'll not clear about before going on. I shouldn't view physics as a very hard subject but treat every topic of it like a concept that we need to absorb in order to love physics!
Audrey Koo from 4 Humility
ReplyDeleteI find this video interesting.

ReplyDeleteThis video is very intresting and fun to see.It show us that learning a subject, physics is now just about memorizing the defination or formulae but is to understand the concept behind everything. So actually, i think i can remember the things Mr Chang teach us but not really understanding it. So i shall start understanding it so as to do well and love physics.

ReplyDeletethis movie seems nice :D hahaha.
from this, i learnt that theres more than one way to look at physics and things in life. the complicated way, or just the simple way. sometimes we learn more things using the complicated way, but other times the simple way is more effective.
i think the teaching method used now is pretty good, the powerpoint slides used in class is kind of more to the point? rather than the textbook, we have to pick out the important points ourselves. the animations used also amuse us, making us destress by laughing(like the cat with the gun). they also allow us to learn better(like the animation on the way electrons move).
thanks mrchang! :D

ReplyDeleteI find the video really funny and meaningful. :D

ReplyDeleteI am glad that our physics lesson doesn't have such scenarios from the video, where teachers just teach for the sake of results or grades.

ReplyDeleteI enjoy learning of Physics because every single day of our lives we come into interaction with things related to physics.

ReplyDeletePhysics
Physics is like friends.
You may not understand it very well in the begginning.
But as time passes by, with experience,we slowly understand Physics, understand how to deal with it.
Physics is like friends.
Getting to know new friends after every chapter.
Welcoming them to your world,
everytime you learn about a new chapter.
Everytime they teach us about a new chapter,
they get really excited and enthusiastic about wanting to tell us more and more about the chapter!
Because this is our first time exposed to pure physics,
a lot of us don't understand.
But you still come over to help us.
'Mr chang!' there,
'Mr chang!' here.
So i hope you can help me more in the future if i need help?
Thank You :)
Physics love me,

ReplyDeleteWell...i feel somewhat enlightened by the video to a certain extent.

ReplyDeleteThe video is very inspiring, interesting and funny. It makes me realise that solely memmorising textbook definitions and formulas is not the way to do well in physics. ReplyDeleteI think that Mr chang is teaching similarly to rancho in this video, unconventional methods are used in class.

ReplyDeletei find this video very true in some cases. whats the point of just memorizing just to get good grades. we have to love the subject in order to understand it to the fullest. and if we want to ace our subjects we have to love it as well. i think that to ace this O level we all havce to love physics. thanks for the vid:)

ReplyDeleteI find the video inspiring and somewhat serves as a stark reminder that in our studying phase, not everything requires us to memorise them by heart but all should be done with understanding. The books are dead, but we are alive and we have to learn to creatively apply what we have learnt into our daily lives. Also, Ranch is trying to convey a message to everyone that memorising the wordings in the book is not enough but one must be able to fashion them into tools for solving our daily life problems. Hence, through this video, I have learnt that if I want to excel in my studies, be it from English to Science, I have to learn everything with an open heart and sometimes, though, our teachers may not always be right. ;D

ReplyDeleteI like this video as it shows that one cannot stay at a position for long , it has to move on like how the world has evolved into it's modern state .

ReplyDeleteThrough this video, I learnt that my learning of physics have to go beyond the textbook if i am to fully make full use of what i am studying now, since physics is applicable to my daily lifestyle. XD

ReplyDeletethis video makes me realise that learning physics is not just about learning the theory or just memorising the formulas.we can always link the concepts into our daily applications so as to get a better grip or understanding on the subject itself. i believe that although physics is rather confusing, we can always master or excel on it by improving the way we are learning it. we can always make our learning journey much more interesting and meaningful and thankfully our physics teacher has been doing this every physics lessons.:D
however, i still find physics as one of the most complex subject i have ever learned. the more i think deeply into the concepts, the more confused i become. so, all this while, i have been studying physics by simply memorising the formulas and theory without a good understanding on the concepts itself. however, hopefully, i can change the way i study soon so that physics can turn out to be an interesting and useful subject to me.:D

I feel that Rancho was making a point. A point that we have to learn with the ATTITUDE to learn not how much we KNOW, or who's going to be the BEST.
Physics is interesting, we have to put not just our brains, but our heart to it too. :D

ReplyDeleteThis interesting video shows why we should not only study or dread studying because the things we study is happening around us all the time.

ReplyDeletei feel that learning physics is not just poring over physics textbook for hours. it's a subject related to our everyday life. sometimes when i read the textbook definitions i found it quite boring and abstract. but when applying them in daily life , the abstract concepts really work and make work more effective and less time-consuming. just as Manhui mentioned in her comment, physics is not just about getting a good grade....

i've grown to like physics over the months, not because of the teacher *er-hem, maybe because of the teacher's never-ending smile*, but because over the months i have learnt and grow to understand more about this subject. understanding deepens and interest grows(: true enough, papers that mr chang set are never easy. but solving them gives a great sense of achievment, making me like them more. it's like an addiction (kind of). it is also through mr chang i have learnt the concepts of physics. it's everywhere, we just need to learn to appreciate it(: well i think the secret to mr chang's wide smile is because of us - "physics love you" (as quoted from mr chang). you just have to love it back(: no wonder mr chang dont get annoyed when we keep calling his name in class.. :P
physics is fun and interesting. it just takes to see the way we look at it (:

ReplyDeleteI find this movie kinda true.

ReplyDeleteThis video has thought me that when learning, not only for physics but also for all the subjects, what we score is not important, nor so is the textbook answers. What is important is that we enjoy what we study and study what we enjoy. We must go beyond the textbook to love and appreciate the true meaning of the subjects we are studying, and not just remember the formulas or concepts, just for the sake of a good grade for the exams

ReplyDeleteAfter watching the video, i learnt that Physics is not just all about the textbooks and what our teacher tries to tell us, it also includes our own interest and our own understanding when it comes to a certain subject. C:

ReplyDeleteAfter watching this funny video, i have learnt the importance of learning (Physics) and applying the concepts. Learning is not about getting an A1 and memorising all formulae. Though sometimes, u reeally have to memorise some, as they may be tested, for definations.
I like Mr Chang's teaching as he always wears a smile, every min and second. :D
Though SPA can be quite boring at times. :x

ReplyDeleteI feel that it is important for us to read the textbook and memorise the definitions, but most importantly, we have to understand and try out the concepts learnt in order to know why is it like this, etc.

ReplyDeletei enjoyed the video. it is refreshing to see "Rancho" and Mr Chang's views on learning Physics. the aim of is to learn Physics and not just to score an A1. though scoring an a1 would be really nice:)... anyway it changes how i think towards physics, it is not boring if i think differently and hopefully i would like the subject more.

ReplyDeletePhysics is not just what you can learn from a textbook, is all about the changes in daily life. We will need to know the concept before we could apply anything. Learning physics is not just to aim for a A1, it's the understanding, since physics has done alot for us, we should learn it with passionate even though it may be the hardest subjects :))

ReplyDeleteThis video is hilarious and interesting and i feel that it's rather true, textbook definitions and concept might not be really useful for my understanding in physics. simplifies version might not be useless.I think that learning Physic concepts and definitions are abstract and difficult to understand but with the experiments and tough questions you gave us, give me an opportunity to put on my thinking cap. learning Physics is not just about boring concepts, there are still some fun in many ways, for example the experiments like the ice cream box and the thermometer you gave us, made me have a deeper understanding of those topics involved.

ReplyDeleteI think this video is sooo true!

ReplyDeleteAfter watching the video, I feel that physics isn't just a subject, its more like an understanding(to me), on the things around, on the basic thoughts of why things happen like how they do.

ReplyDeleteOkay, this video is super funny, literally made me fall off my chair.

ReplyDeleteNo offence but this video really have no link to physics. :)

ReplyDeleteIn life, studying is not about scoring in exams and tests only, they are only a gauge to see how how we have learnt from years and days of our education.Studying is definitely important, but why do we study?
Thank you and we will continue to try our best.
Mr Chang's teaching is quite interesting but there is still room for improvement.

ReplyDeleteAfter watching this video, i understand that physics is not about memorizing the formulas or definitions. It's about understanding it and applying it. It can also be in a simplified version, but as long as the theory or concept behind it is correct, it does not matter. I also learnt that physics requires your own interest in it and one must enjoy learning it. We should not just study it as it is one of our subjects or just to get good grades.

ReplyDeleteAfter watching this video, I would understand that we should not always strive to get A1s only.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the vedio as nowadays , learning is more like memorizing everything rather then trying to understand the true meaning of what we are learning.

ReplyDeletethis video is highly linked to understanding of our subject.in this case, physics.we should try to understand and not be afraid of it so that our knowledge will be broaden and widened.Maybe in lower secondary,we all think that physics is boring but it is the origin of our creations so we should try to understand and not memorize everything so deadly which will be of no use to us in future when we work in the society and thus,we should learn physics in a more flexible way to make it an even more interesting way of studying, not only memorizing, and also to understand and apply in our daily lives.

ReplyDeletePhysics is the study of the universe, time and space. Physics tell us why apple will drop to the ground instead of flying away. Great scientists don't just remember laws or definitions, they ask questions and trying to find the answer. I don't want to study physics by just remember laws. Therefore, i agree with your way of teaching.

ReplyDeleteVery cool video. =)

ReplyDeleteAfter watching this video, it taught me that what we are learning now for this subject is not only for our O level grades, but also for our future as it provides very useful skills.

ReplyDeleteI feel that the video encompasses the two sides of learning.

I think the method of teaching for the 'O' Level Physis in HIHS is relatively enjoyable.

To me learning Physics is pretty enjoyable as it teaches me formulas that i have not seen it before and guides me to the fundamentals of life and explains the many questions that i ponder about in my early yaers of my life.
And i am truly glad that i understand the theories behind the concepts.(e.g why things would fall a t a constant rate, from the free fall and terminal velocities theory.)
Learning Physics requires critical thinking, which is one key aspect that i fell its quite hard to grasp.
